Nigeria society where very rich people buy judgments ― Lawan

Says we want Nigeria where poor, vulnerable, disadvantaged can go to courts, get judgment

SENATE Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, All Progressives Congress, APC, Yobe North, yesterday took a swipe at the Judiciary, saying that Nigeria is a country where very wealthy people buy judgments in their favour.

According to him, there was the urgent need to put an end to the ugly trend by a move away from it completely.

World Bank By Ediri Ejoh The latest report of the World Bank’s  Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR) has reported that  Nigeria, Russia, Iraq, Iran, United States, Algeria and Venezuela have been the world’s leading seven gas flaring countries in the past 9 years, accounting for 65 percent of global gas flaring. The report which was first launched in 2012, stated that these seven countries produce 40 per cent of the world’s oil each year, but account for roughly two-thirds or 65 per cent of global gas flaring. Gas flaring, the burning of natural gas associated with oil extraction, takes place due to a range of issues, from market and economic constraints, to a lack of appropriate regulation and political will. Nigeria’s trade deficit rises 49% to $2.5bn

A map of Nigeria *Capital importation drops 31%   By Elizabeth Adegbesan The nation’s trade deficit rose month-on-month by 49 percent to $2.5 billion in January from $1.69 billion in December last year even as foreign trade stood at $8.14 billion during the period. Also capital importation dropped by 31 percent to $380 million in January from $550 million in December 2020. However, aggregate external trade improved marginally by 3.2 per cent during the period.
