Sexual harassment: 63 CSOs threaten legal action against perpetrators

ENUGU- NO less than 63 Women’s Organizations, Activists, Scholars, Civil Society and Human Rights Organisations in Nigeria have threatened to take legal action against violation of rights of over 100 women who were allegedly assaulted, humiliated and sexually harassed at an Abuja night club, last week.

Nigeria, 6 others account for 65% global gas flaring — World Bank

World Bank By Ediri Ejoh The latest report of the World Bank’s  Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR) has reported that  Nigeria, Russia, Iraq, Iran, United States, Algeria and Venezuela have been the world’s leading seven gas flaring countries in the past 9 years, accounting for 65 percent of global gas flaring. The report which was first launched in 2012, stated that these seven countries produce 40 per cent of the world’s oil each year, but account for roughly two-thirds or 65 per cent of global gas flaring. Gas flaring, the burning of natural gas associated with oil extraction, takes place due to a range of issues, from market and economic constraints, to a lack of appropriate regulation and political will. A map of Nigeria *Capital importation drops 31%   By Elizabeth Adegbesan The nation’s trade deficit rose month-on-month by 49 percent to $2.5 billion in January from $1.69 billion in December last year even as foreign trade stood at $8.14 billion during the period. Also capital importation dropped by 31 percent to $380 million in January from $550 million in December 2020. However, aggregate external trade improved marginally by 3.2 per cent during the period.
