Man died after allegedly beating wife to death in Osun

It was gathered that the couple operated joint business at Alokowe area of Ile-Ife in Osun state, where the husband sells drinks while the wife sells assorted bush meat. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, re-arraigned former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, on a nine-count charge bordering on money laundering at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Suswam, a serving senator, was re-arraigned before Justice Okon Abang alongside Omadachi Oklobia, who was Commissioner for Finance in Benue State when he was governor. The duo pleaded not guilty to all charges and were granted bail based on terms earlier granted by Justice Ahmed Mohammed after they were arraigned before him in 2015. EFCC nabs fake lawyer over N300,000 fraud, impersonation

Nigerian ‘torture house’: Kaduna school was ‘like hellfire’

A survivor of the Nigerian “torture house” raided by police in Kaduna has described being there as “living in hellfire”. “If you are praying they will beat you. If you are studying they will beat you,” Isa Ibrahim, 29, told the BBC . Nearly 500 men and boys were rescued from the building in Kaduna, which was being used as an Islamic school and correctional facility. The rise of Boko Haram when it initially turned churches into ruins was seen as proof. Information available to our correspondent revealed that the victims were allegedly kidnapped in Kankara local government area of the state and sold to a woman in Cotonou who in turn sold them to another slave merchant in Burkina Faso. Recall that the Katsina State government and Governor Aminu Bello Masari initiated a peace dialogue where it visited the hideout of the bandits to parley with them and a swap deal which saw releases of both kidnap victims and the bandits in detention. A vote of no confidence in the government aimed at replacing Boris Johnson as prime minister could be held next week, a senior SNP MP has said. Stewart Hosie told the BBC such a move may be the only way of avoiding a no-deal Brexit on 31 October. SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon hinted on Friday she might back Jeremy Corbyn becoming a “caretaker” prime minister. The Liberal Democrats have, however, said the Labour leader is too divisive a figure to play such a role. LASG strengthens emergency preparedness against infectious diseases

The Lagos State Government (LASG) says it has strengthened its emergency preparedness against emerging infectious diseases through the implementation of policies on bio-security and bio-banking. The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said this on Sunday in Lagos. BREAKING: Late night inferno razes 30 shops in Lagos gas explosion

By Olasunkanmi Akoni Tragedy struck in the late hours of Sunday, September 29, when 13 shops were razed by fire at Adeshola Street, Agodo Bus Stop, Cele Egbe, in Idimu-Egbe Local Council Development Area, LCDA of Lagos State. Though, no major casualties were recorded, two adult males suffered minor injuries and have since been taken to an undisclosed hospital for further medical attention. According to report by the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, which raced to the scene of incident, revealed that, the affected shops gutted by fire was due to a gas cylinder that exploded in one of the shops.
